My dad has promised us a car for my 16th birthday. He told me to do some research and find good small cars. What do people think? It will be a new car. Small but not too small. 4 door not too expensive. HELP!

  8. JayB Says:

My first car was a Honda Civic. I loved that car. It was great on gas and those things hardly ever have any problems.

  19. scoobystang2004 Says:

    Honda Civic
They are cheap and dependable little cars. They get great gas mileage too!

  20. Leanne Says:

Its difficult to throw out some ideas without a price range to work with but usually the key factors are safe, reliable, easy to maintain, economical, and insurance friendly meaning no sports cars or monster trucks.

  21. caroline91394 Says:

a used one….don’t spoil them. A nice one, just used

The teenage car is a Honda Civic although its not exactly the safest car. I’d look into a volvo or maybe a nissan, depends. Good Luck =)

How about a little punch buggy? Red would be cute. Only 2 doors but, it’s a convertible!

  25. Tanner (Gettin' By) Says:

I turned 16 in early December, and I’m fixing up my mom’s old 1987 Camaro (personally I’d choose it over a new car, given the chance)

If it had to be new though, and 4 door, then I’d go with anything made by Honda. Honda is in general a very good company for cars and motorcycles (although their trucks lack power). But if you’re wanting a not too expensive car that looks half decent, go with anything Honda.

    Lexus isn’t too bad either…
Congratulations though! Hit your local classifieds like I did. I spent almost four months looking around before I just decided that the best car for me was already in my backyard… haha

    NOT A HONDA CIVIC!

    and looking for a
    PONTIAC GRAND AM

    it is a great car
    small
    goodmileagee
    and it is really cute!

it is the perfect car for any teen or adult
it is my favorite car that we own

(if you cant find one then look for a pontiac grand prix)

    GOOD LUCK!

My husband bought both my twin sons new Jeeps for their first cars THey both are very active in sports so he wanted them to have something they could use in that way. They have been very happy with them. Two years ago, we bought my niece a Ford Focus to take to college, she loves it, it was loaded, and very good on gas, and not very expensive.

We helped our daughter buy a PT Cruiser. It’s solid. It’s like a mini-minivan (a microvan?). It seats 4 without problems. The hatchback has enough room for backpack and soccer gear. It has a short wheel base which makes it handle well.

It was suggested that we look at a Honda Accord. They were way more cramped on the inside than the PT. She didn’t like it and it cost more.

Don’t get a Camaro, Mustang, or other sportscar. Unless you’re fabulously wealthy, you won’t be able to afford the insurance on it if the car is in your name.

None of my kids got a car at 16 and none drove when they were 16. 16 is too young in my opinion. Kids that age get into way too many accidents, many tragic.

My kids worked for their own cars and started driving at 18 when they were more responsible and when driving was a necessity for getting to college and work.

They chose used Toyota and Honda compacts. They are reliable and get good gas mileage.

  31. Mini Miko on the way! Says:

lucky!! Corollas, Civics, or Accents. Cheap but very good engines and the outsides look pretty good. What you need is a good engine right now. You can afford a nicer looking car later.

  32. :)) Says:

I got a Chevy Cobalt and I really like it, I haven’t had any problems with it. But I really like Honda Civics or Accords. None of those are that expensive and they aren’t too small:) Good Luck

  33. lornuhh33 Says:

    Nissan Sentra
    Toyota Corrolla
    Honda Civic

The Sentra is a really good car. That would be my first choice and then the corolla. I don’t really like the looks of the new civics. Also, the corolla had really good crash test ratings, FYI. I would choose the Sentra though.

  34. Rocker Girl Says:

My car I bought on my own.. It’s a Chevy Cavalier. It gets from point A to point B sometimes.. Right now the battery needs to be replaced. If I go a day without driving it I have to jump start the battery. It *****. But yeah other than that good car.
