Why cars do not come with performance headers in stock?

OstTimber asked:

I hear from a lot of people, that I should change headers in my car. In my opinion, it will not be too expensive for manufacturer to make them a little wider (so exhaust gas could flow faster). Than why do manufacturers do not provide cars with them?
I am thinking to change one too, is it worth it?

manufactuers do not include them because they lower the mpg on a car just like most other performance part in the 60s and 70s you could get them but now days they are against regulations for manufactuers to put them on because of fuel economy i would not suggest changing with gas prices the way they are

A lot of manufacturers do provide performance parts for their cars, but it doesn’t suit everyone’s taste to have them already installed. Some performance parts like exhaust mufflers and intakes make the car more noisy, and some like headers, and cam gears reduce MPG.

If you want big HP gains, go forced induction like turbo or superchargers. Headers, intakes, and exhausts will yield a few horsepower. But a turbo is the most for your money.

when manufacturers build cars they have to adhere to certain laws like Idon’t say.. import laws enviormental laws etc etc.. if you put any type of performance add ons to you car your gonna change the amount of smog your cars putting out… and how much gas you cars using etc etc depending on your car lets uh I don’t know.. a Lotus or Lamburghini they have performance equipment stock but if you buy a 20 thousand dollar sports car then you better not expect any high performance equip stock you get me??
