Ziggy’s right, Autotrader is a good site to start on.
As for a first car, a Vauxhall Corsa, Fiat Punto, Ford Fiesta or Ka are all cheap to insure.

If you get something japanese- preferably Honda or Toyota then it will serve you well. I only know of two Honda breakdowns out of all the people i know who drive Hondas (mmm i don’t know anyone who drives a Toyota, never thought of that before!)
sorry, yes, the two breakdowns were
1: Ran out of fuel
2: Left the lights on all night and ran the battery down.
If you ask anyone who owns a Ford or Vauxhall of their breakdowns they will not likely be human error.
German cars are invariably good but more expensive to maintain. Happy Driving

My wife, my daughter and me (and two of my neighbours) have got Ford Ka’s.
They are cheap to insure, use little petrol (325+ miles to a tank), tyres are cheap (£33) and because they are small and have power steering, they are SO EASY to park!
They are surprisingly roomy inside. Go to a dealer and sit in one. You’ll love it.

is a great site to look for cars for sale. is a great site to read reviews of cars to find out if they are any good.
Good 1st cars are: Honda Civic, Accord, Prelude, CRX, Fit. Acura TL, Integra. Toyota Camry, Corolla, Celica. Subaru Impreza, Legacy.
All are safe, reliable, get great gas mileage, and have a high resale value. The Subaru’s offer AWD which is convienent and safe. The Prelude, Integra, TL and Celica all offer a little more power and are really fun to drive.
Good Luck!

The best website to research for cars is Edmunds.com; it not only has great data search for cars by year, make, model; but the pages contain pictures, video, reviews, commercials, tv programs, and tons of data on each vehicle. You will not be dissappointed on the wealth of information on new and used cars.
I feel cars are a very personal thing, and each person has a different preference, like a boyfriend or girlfriend. So, what a good first car for you may be completely different for someone else.
In general, a first car should be cheap and reliable. A good general first car would be something like a Toyota corolla. It has great reliability, very well made, good fuel millage, and should come standard with all the necessary features you need, ie AC and CD player.
I would suggest you go to Edmunds, look in your pricerange and type of vehicle and see what they recommend.
I hope this helps

Like you I’m also looking for a first car as I’m going to start to learn to drive soon.
AutoTrader.co.uk is a great website to search for used or new cars.
For a first car, personally I’d get something thats not to expensive to buy, so bumps and scrapes wont be the end of the world. But it’s also worth getting a small car with a small engine like a 1.2/1.3, so fuel economy will be good and insurance will be kept to the minimum.

Well, you can surf around Cnet, write Cnet Car Tech in Google, I personally would buy an Alfa Romeo as my first car, the 159, its got so much pure italian passion and it looks so good. But if this is a bit too much for you why not look at the new Camry or Accord or even the new Mercury Milan! Your Choice!
