Hard to believe now, but dear old Val was a fixture of Saturday night TV for a while in the 70s and would always end by doing a number from his rocking chair. He didn’t always sing joke songs - the fantastic What Would I Be narrowly missed the number one spot in 1966, and of course he hit with Walk Tall and Elusive Butterfly as well.
