How do people without cars get their new babies home?

It might seem like a silly question, but i’ve been pondering it. I live in a big city, so a lot of people don’t have cars. It seems silly to have them go by a car seat they’re never going use to have someone drive them home from the hospital, so how do they get the baby home?
Does the hospital let people take a newborn on public transportation? Walk?
